bond group

All the electrons shared between two atoms. As a rule this is either 2, 4, or 6 electrons.
Used in the VSEPR approach to molecular geometry.

bromonium ion

If a carbocation centre forms next to a carbon bearing an atom with electron lone pairs (such as bromine), the lone pairs will interact with the cation centre, stabilizing it and forming a cyclic cation called (in the bromine case) a bromonium ion.

This reaction sequence illustrates the formation of a bromonium ion by the addition of bromine to methylpropene.

Brønsted acid

A compound capable of donating an H+ in a chemical reaction. The H+ acceptor in this reaction is a Brønsted base.
When water is the base, the reaction is often called acid dissociation and the equilibrium constant of the process, Ka, is used as an indicator of acid strength (proton donation ability).
