Markovnikov Addition

The addition of a species X-Y to a C=C such that the more electronegative of X and Y ends up bonded to the more substituted carbon.
If the reverse occurs, that is the more electronegative of X and Y ends up bonding to the least substituted carbon, this is termed anti-Markovnikov addition.

molecular geometry

The shape of a molecule as deduced centre by centre through the VSEPR approach.
In the absence of lone pairs of electrons, the molecular geometry is the same as the electronic geometry.
With lone pairs present, the molecular geometry differs from that of the electron geometry by naming the shape obtained only by considering the bonded atoms.

molecularity

The molecularity of a step in a reaction mechanism refers to the number of species which collide in that step.
Unimolecular: one species involved in the step.
Bimolecular: two species collide in the step.
Termolecular: three species collide simultaneously in the step.
Statistics quickly shows that there is little chance that a step is termolecular. As a consequence, common reaction mechanisms are written with uni- or bimolecular steps.
